     In the XII century, before existing bases of educational centers, Georgian King David Aghmashenebeli (The Reviver) founded Gelati monastery in order to deepen secular and celestially sciences. The goal of it was renewing of educational activities and eminent promotion of it accordingly the Epoch. The name was selected conformable: “Gaenati” which means “doors of heaven”. During the centuries it was educational scientific center, which had the function to connect Georgia to the western civilizations and has such meaning for Georgian cultural history as Academy of Mangan had for Byzantium. Within Gelati Academy had been created manuscript books in which some of them has world importance and nowadays they are keeping in Kutaisi Ethnographic museum of history.

     At the beginning of XVI century, Gelati Academy ceased its activities. Form this period, during five centuries divided and disintegrated Georgia was in front of physical destruction, for such high cultural sate as is the development of science, country hadn’t sufficient strength.

     Gelati Academy of Sciences was rebuilt in 25th may of 1995 year by the joint resolution of the Catholicos–patriarch of all Georgia and the head of state. It represents as scientific-research as educational center founded by Saint King David IV Aghmashenebeli, due to this, it should be restored and be continued the traditions of Gelati Academy in our reality.

     The goal of academy is not increase international scientific activities and insert Georgia intensively in “dialogue between civilizations”.

     From 2007 year academy has begun organizing international conferences young scientists in order to master scientific research method and to interest youth scientific investigations by this direction an academy is collaborating with student organization “The center of cultural integration”. Arrangement system “Gelati” annually interchanges by mottoes, which reflects actual matters of present world importance: 2007-2008 Globalization and the Modern Epoch; 2010 will greeting “Contemporary world and we”.

     In 2009 year within scope of Gelati Academy has formed “small academy” whose mission lies on full freedom and animation of XXI century scientific research as creation of unification platform between values of common to all making. So the relationship between generations is guarantee of providing this mission.
